After graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in May of 2007, Jessica Dickerson moved to Chicago in order to live in a real city, open to difference. She never intended to write, but now she finds herself lost in books, pouring over useful information that she can translate into accessible writings geared towards socio-economically and socio-politically oppressed people. Essentially, she wishes to use her literary voice as means to encourage working class people and people of color to take initiative and begin changing the oppressive conditions that they are in.
Currently, she is working on a journal project, entitled 'Secrets to Survival', where the journal is to travel to the hands of people of color who wish to share their secrets to survival within its pages as means to localizing the struggle of people of color as well as giving one a shared sense of self. The journal begins its journey in Chicago, Illinois and will hopefully end up full, its insides bulging of fruitful information.
