Episiotomies (surgical incisions into the perineum, the area of skin between the vagina and the anus) are performed on anywhere from 65% to 95% of all child-birthing women (depending on circumstance) in the USA (Source). It is a horrible procedure that is almost always unnecessary. 95% of all 4th degree tears (into the rectum) are from episiotomies that have torn too far. This is the most common surgery in the United States. It is violent and a violation. Yet often, no one speaks up for the vagina!!

Well, Sarah Biermeier is. She has helped to save over fifty perineums in four years, and those have gone on to talk to other vaginas. The word is spreading ...
