Artist Statement

I am drawn to intimate situations and contradictions that occur in life's ordinary situations, human or animal. This usually means portraying a side of someone that is usually not seen. Although many of my paintings are a self portrait in some sense, I attempt to capture emotions that many experience at some point in time.

My compositions are meant to seem balanced but also oddly interesting. I want to get a feeling across through subtle means. I strive to make people look at what they usually pass over quickly.

The ideas for my paintings may come from doing portraits of random subjects that cross my path or from situations that I may be going through in my life. Either way, each painting is a snapshot of a story that I am conveying to the viewer.
