Image Biography: Edie Daldrup was born and raised in Tucson, Arizona. She began her career in the arts at a young age while volunteering for the Arizona Opera Company; participating as a supernumerary in operas such as Pagliacci, Cavalleria Rusticana, and Othello.

She found a deep connection for visual arts at Pima Community College and eventually became a student at the University of Arizona in the College of Fine Arts. Her focus at the U of A is in two-dimensional studies with a further emphasis in painting and drawing. She will graduate with her B.F.A. in December of 2006. Much of her work is related to the expression of individual female sexuality and she has found vast inspiration through the Women's Studies Department at the University of Arizona. She believes that creating art enables her to express life's passion and pain.

Edie also teaches art programs for Blenman Elementary School in the Tucson Unified School District. Working with children is a very important aspect of her career as an artist and she plans to continue working in the public school system as an arts teacher.

In December of 2005, Edie graduated from the Providence Institute's Yoga Teacher Training and is currently a yoga teacher and an active Board Member of the Arizona Yoga Association. In January 2006, she studied with master yoga teachers at the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram in Chennai, India.

Through yoga, Edie has cultivated acceptance, which allows her to artistically express more freely the true nature of her beliefs. Through her art, she hopes to inspire women to embrace their true nature.

Artist Statement

Women are bombarded with images of what they should look and feel like everyday. Pop culture film, magazines, and television have all contributed to the loss of control many women feel regarding their own sexuality. Many of the ideas we have about women and their sexuality are spoon fed to us from a patriarchal society.

In order to break these barriers, women must speak up, for it is language that sets us apart from one another. It is language that allows us to express ourselves as individuals.

My work engages a variety of women - from feminist writers to adult film stars - and explores their sexual individuality. My goal with this work is to empower feminine sexual individuality and return a woman's sexuality into her own hands.

My curse is my gift. My nightmares, deep sensitivity, and emotional instability gives the best (and most uncomfortable) inspirations I could ever have. For me, art is passion - and visions are the mirror, which show my feelings and connect me with the rest of the world.   Read More...
