"Funny how the things / you think are your life / can be the difference / between living and death."
- Emaline Delapaix, from the song "Balloon"
Biography
Emaline Delapaix is a talented Toronto-based Australian singer-songwriter-photographer-poet in the early stages of her already impressive career.
Primarily a folk singer of sorts, Emaline likes to tell stories and keep people guessing and asking questions in response to her art. She has spent the last four years delighting and amusing audiences all over the world with her unique and delicious blend of music.
Late last year she decided to take up photography as a hobby in between touring, and she continues to be fascinated by the world around her as seen through a camera lens. She has since embarked on a new journey with photography, in which she has been including portraiture into her work, such as having selected photos accompany her poetry.
As with music, Emaline has no formal education in photography and is just beginning to form a style with her photo art, exploring themes such as sexuality, death, food, darkness and light, while utilizing shadows, skin and vibrant colors.
Fascinated with mortality and the human body, her first collection of photos ever shown to the public included "Strip" and "Making Friends With The Bathroom Mirror" as part of Toronto Pride's ARTWHERK! Exhibition, from June 20 - 24, 2005.
Selected works seen in this Empowerment4Women virtual gallery will be included in a poetry/art anthology called "Hope Grows," available in 2006.
