Biography

African-Canadian artist and poet Roxane A. Tracey creates work from her soul with the intention of touching the souls of others. Roxane believes both art and words can reach within to uncover hidden passion, desire, sadness and strength.

Through creating Poetic Art, Roxane intends to tap into the senses and stimulate the mind. She has been seriously exploring artistic creation since 1999 and she couldn't imagine life without it.

Roxane's artistic creations are largely inspired by her travels throughout both East and West Africa. She feels that the spirit of the ancestors live within her work and that a fire within moves her to inspire others through her artwork.

Artist Statement

My years as a writer proceed my years as a visual artist. But despite this fact, my passion for the act of creation has led seamlessly to my desire to blend imagery and words. My work is a reflection of my intention to touch souls with colour, words and form.

As an artist, I am compelled to move beneath the surface expectations of imagery and words in order to explore new territory. {quotes}My work is not particularly radical or shocking yet it is subtle in its quest to interrupt thought and disrupt one's expectations of contemporary art.{/quotes}

My artwork attempts to communicate spiritual beauty, strength and hope, with the intention of inspiring the viewer to find these elements within themselves.
