i remember your tears falling
like leaves really
that left muddy tracks
down your cracked cheeks

those brittle eyes
that could shed such tears
so sere
and looking toward winter

what could i do?
what could i do?
I pressed a kiss to my fingers
and then to your cheek
where it burrowed
a frightened thing

became a seed
with the promise of spring
if you could only water it
with something besides
your dessicated sorrow

About the Author

Annette Marie Hyder is a freelance journalist/editor, artist and author.

She sees life as a poem that is constantly altering its form to accommodate one's world view/experiences: sometimes a sonnet, sometimes haiku, sometimes graffiti on a wall. She believes that in love you should not say it with flowers, you should say it with words. Diamonds, however, are always acceptable.
