i come in quietly

the house breathes to its own rhythm

hello granny dearest   i say softly

she does not recognize me

but i know what to do

…i laugh

oh agnieszka   she smiles

and dozes off in her armchair

Agnieszka Niemira's poems have been published in Empowerment4Women, Southerly, the poetry anthology Up From Below, Paper Wasp, Scope, SpeedPoets, Radar, Slowo Powszechne, haiku dreaming australia, stuchuriada, and on the Brisbane Rape and Incest Survivors Support Centre website. She has performed her poetry at various events in Poland and Australia, read her work on radio, and collected a few awards. She has also published articles on learning and human rights.
