Dear Ms. Keenan and NARAL Staff,

As a long-time supporter and volunteer with your organization, I feel compelled to write to you today to express my utter disbelief and - quite frankly - disappointment with NARAL for your outspoken and unilateral support of Senator Obama for U.S. President.

Hillary Clinton has been a long-time supporter of women's rights. A woman herself, she is - quite obviously - the only candidate who can truly say that she supports women's issues wholeheartedly; after all, look at her campaign: She fights gender-based discrimination every day. The fact that your organization has so clearly disregarded her as a valid political candidate - much less one to endorse - completely floors me. I urge you to reconsider and to, at the very least, offer a dual endorsement for both Democratic candidates.

At a time when a female has a very clear shot at the U.S. presidency - and, therefore, we as women have the first chance to elect a leader that will, above all else, support our rights to choose - I believe it's irresponsible and, even, insulting to disregard her validity as a strong campaign contender. As I'm sure you very well know, Hillary Clinton is very much a candidate who supports reproductive freedom and I believe that you owe it to your members - and to the public - to step forward and admit that either Democratic candidate is ready and willing to support a woman's right to choose.

Ultimately, what we must all remember is that this election is going to come down to who can win against Senator McCain - an outspoken pro-lifer who has tried (and, if he becomes President, I believe will succeed) to overturn the crucial Roe v. Wade decision. Hillary Clinton, I believe, is the candidate who can and will beat Senator McCain, thereby ensuring the sanctity of Roe v. Wade and the pro-choice agenda for years to come.

I urge you to remember: When it comes to safety and security of our freedoms - aside from any feminist and/or gender issues this brings up - Hillary Clinton is not the "enemy"; Senator McCain is. And we should be backing the candidate who has the best shot - through experience, wisdom, and tenacity - at successfully beating him in the race to the White House.

Sincerely,

Carly Finseth
