What on earth is that ringing I hear? I've been waiting for a knock, the sweet knock of opportunity, but ringing? What on earth could it be? Maybe it's the door bell, though that's not the sound the door bell usually makes. Hmmm, maybe I should go check. But wait! I know! It's coming from the other room! It's the phone! Oh good, I made it just in time! "Hello?"

How often do we miss opportunities, completely miss even the awareness that they exist, because we are looking or listening for something else? Perhaps we are listening for a knock on the door but not the ringing of a phone? This is more common than we will probably ever truly know, because so much of life simply slips past while we hustle, do what "needs to be done," and discard the opportunities and blessings that are ours for the taking because they don't dress themselves in familiar clothes.

Over the past couple of months, I have been gifted with a chance to look at my own blinders around opportunities and has it ever been an eye-opening education. In my case, I have been devoted to my most current business, Leading Ladies (as you know). It is one of my deep passions to continually find new ways to support the women who are constantly mentoring and empowering others. However, one thing that I have needed to remind myself is that while this is a magnificent passion, and I am committed to it, the reason I became self-employed, was for the freedom and variety I need to thrive. This is also the reason I have continued to sustain two businesses: Leading Ladies and ACCES (Angel's Consulting Coaching & Education Services). I love the "umbrella" nature of ACCES and the defined target population nature of Leading Ladies. However, it was time for a wake-up call, because my focus had, admittedly, become too narrow and contrary to my adventurous personality.

So near the beginning of December 2007, I was directly recruited to contract with a film producer as a consultant/coordinator on two video projects. This contract had nothing to do with my beloved Leading Ladies, though. What should I do? I knew intuitively and immediately this was opportunity ringing (not knocking, but clearly ringing). This is a new field for me, it's absolutely something my skills are a great fit for, it makes my heart race, so I thought, "Yes, I will do it!" In fact I am now doing it and we are going into production stage on the videos this very week!

Since then it seems that the floodgates have opened in so many other arenas of my business and I am in the magnificent space of "yes!" For the sake of this article I will only say that it seems that everywhere I turn, from the most unexpected places, I am being surrounded by new opportunities to play, to expand my business, to thrive. It is such an incredible reminder of the way attraction works; not just in theory, but in real, everyday life.

In love, I ask you to consider the following questions as you move into a new year of power, possibility and opportunity in 2008:

1. Is opportunity ringing, tapping you on the shoulder, whispering in your ear, standing right before you in unfamiliar clothes even now?

If you're not sure, take time to truly think and reflect on recent conversations, intuitive hunches, invitations from friends/loved ones, and other "knowings" that you may have brushed aside or disregarded completely.

Just give each experience a second look in the quiet and illuminating light of: "Is this an opportunity ringing?"

If not, let it go and move on, but if it is, don't waste one more moment contemplating how much differently it looks than what you had expected. Take it for the gift that it is; jump in with both feet and discover more joy, freedom, and success than you've ever known before.

"The moment of enlightenment is when a person's dreams of possibilities become images of probabilities." - Vic Braden

2. Do you have ideas, dreams, hunches, and/or unrealized plans/goals that you already know would feed your soul and land you on a new path toward opportunity?

If so, let this be the ringing - your very own wake-up call. It is time, and you are the only one that can make is so. Please gift yourself; gift us with the power and possibility of what you are capable of becoming. Gift us with what you are able and ready to bring to the planet. We're waiting, my friend!

As we greet this new year, understanding the immense power we each hold to create our own destinies, touch the lives of others, and make a difference on our planet one action at a time, I gift you with this thought:

"We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year's Day." - Edith Lovejoy Pierce

Delighting in you and the innumerable opportunities you are attracting to yourself even now as you move into 2008 with heightened levels of power and possibility!

About Emily Habermehl: Artist Statement

My main focus in art is color, design and composition. I have a true passion for color as the art subject itself - how colors fit together, how they communicate with each other within the design, how certain colors combined with one another evoke a certain feeling - this is paramount in my work. I am a social worker, artist and poet living in Austin, TX.   Read More...
