Anyone who works outside knows how important it is to find the right footwear. It should be comfortable, supportive, moisture-resistant, easy to clean, and breathable enough for even the hottest of gardening days. Truth be told, it's a lot to ask to find the perfect outdoor shoes - but I'll tell you what: Sloggers fit the bill.

Perhaps the most exciting part about the Sloggers gardening shoe line is that they do exactly what they say they will. I had the privilege of trying out two different lines of Sloggers: the Premium Garden Clogs and the Sloggys Ultra Lites, a new lightweight shoe.

Image The Premium line is just that: premium. Slip 'em on and your feet will feel warm, cushioned, and supported. They're moisture-resistant and also antimicrobial, so odors, fungi, and other creepy-crawlys from the outdoors can't - and won't - grow inside. And they come in a variety of fun colors: reds, blues, greens, and the new spring line of Geisha Blue (a beautiful baby blue), Petal Pink, and Kiwi (a light green). But the best part? They come in fun patterns and prints, too, like floral, leopard, and my personal favorite - camouflage.

In fact, it was the camo-printed Premium Sloggers that inspired me to follow the company's motto: "Wear It All Weekend." I celebrated my newly discovered comfort shoes by taking them on a camping trip. Not only did they stand up to the rain and mud, but they were easy to slip on and off while coming and going from the tent, and also were warm enough to keep me nice and toasty by the evening campfires. Ultimately, they have become my favorite weekending shoe.

Image The Sloggy Ultra Lites are a Summer must-have, though, in complement to the Premium line. As opposed to the insulating interior of the Premiums, the Ultra Lites are made of very lightweight rubber/EVA, which is comfortable and also very breathable for hot summer days. (I don't know about you but I hate it when my feet get too hot!) Plus, they're cute - so you can wear 'em while you're out and about, too. I've found that keeping a pair of Ultra Lites and a pair of Premiums in with my gardening gear is absolutely a necessity to get me through the entire blooming season. And that's not even mentioning camping trips. Image

About the Author

Carly Hope Finseth spends much of her time pondering what she wants to be when she grows up. She alternates between days filled with cozy socks, hot tea, and meditative reflection - and others, which are loaded with caffeine fixes, grueling commutes, and one fire to put out after another. When she’s not sifting through e-mails, dropping her cell phone, or sticking another reminder Post-It on her desk, Carly also somehow finds the time to write and reflect on important (and the occasional not-so-important) feminist issues.
