Colorism does exist, not just among black people but also Latinos and Asians. However I also find the author's self identification as an African American, instead of her biracial background (African American ?) problematic. Does that mean if someone has mixed racial roots, that person gets to choose one of them? - Sheila

As a white woman, i too have claim to colorism... White women can only be so white you see, if we are "too white" then we must run to the tanning bed (as relaxing as it is, it seems a little much to worry about)... i, and some of my matching-pale friends, all feel that we are "pasty" and "sick looking" compared to our fake and baked friends, therefore we must fake and bake ourselves to the appropriate tone of "light brown", i and some of the mentioned friends envy the dark skin of black women b.c they dont need to worry about spending too much money on tanning sessions... i guess the light brown ppl could be a separate race! lighter toned black ppl and darker toned white people- UNITE! (ok, that was a lot of sarcasm there, i jsut want to agree: we shouldnt care how light or dark we are, we should care that we are alive!)
